As I'm finally getting around to talking about these two films more, this will contain some minor spoilers, if any. Read at your own risk. This will be shorter than I planned to write, but these two controversial films of last year were just really fun movies that I enjoyed for the time I spent watching them. They aren't perfect movies at all, but there's so much to like about both of them. So, here's my pros and cons for both. PROS of The Little Mermaid (2023): -80% of the soundtrack is amazing (Most of the musical numbers and the whole score by Alan Menken)! -Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King are amazing, and their chemistry won me over AS MUCH as the original Ariel and Eric's chemistry. -Eric overall is the highlight of this film, and his song is so great! -The visuals, some special effects and cinematography -Jodi Benson's cameo was a joy to witness -Ariel getting her voice back in this version was something I honestly liked.
